The following received from our Patron

Dear Members,

It is with a heavy heart that I have to inform you of the passing of our Founding Chairman Mike Green, on Friday 2nd November 2018.

Mike had been diagnosed with an incurable cancer a few months back and over the past 2 weeks his health had deteriorated significantly. I had spoken, at great length, with him a number of times very recently and am very happy to report that he was ‘happy with his lot’, he had lived life to the full, had no serious regrets and was mentally prepared to start the next chapter what ever that meant. He went into a local hospice on Monday 29th Oct and by Wednesday was so heavily sedated, to prevent the pain, that effectively his life was coming to an end. Surrounded by his family he slipped the shackles that tied him to this earth and took flight, for the last time, on Friday morning.

Kevin Green called me shortly after his Dad’s passing to let me know and asked me to pass to all members of the ACA. Today, Saturday 3rd November, Kevin called to give details of his Dad’s funeral arrangements. Mike and his children had the opportunity to plan exactly what Mike wished to take place, where and how and the details follow this brief message to you all.

Mike wished to have a Humanist Service (Humanists believe that human experience and rational thinking provide the only source of both knowledge and a moral code to live by. They reject the idea of knowledge 'revealed' to human beings by gods, or in special books) and had asked that NO black ties (except accompanying military uniform) or sombre dress be worn as he wished everyone to celebrate his life. He also asked that those who wished to wear their Naval uniforms would be most welcome…as a mark of respect and to adhere to his wishes I will certainly brush mine down and wear with deep pride…as we all do.

This message will be posted on our ACA website and Facebook pages and sent to all ACA members by email. Please could I ask that you all reply directly to our Secretary, Ian Williams or Harry Worth who will then in a simple email inform Kevin of exactly how many of us will be attending Mike’s funeral. Any cards of condolence should be sent to 106 Cambrian Road, Neyland, Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, SA73 1ST.

Yours Aye
